And now, the
Shipping Forecast
Rockall, Malin, Hebrides Southwest gale 8 to storm 10

In response to ISTD Brief 2 (Weather Dependent), I designed a book exploring the Shipping Forecast. My aim was to examine how a practical weather report has become a national cultural ritual, broadcast daily on BBC Radio 4.
The publication experiments with typography to reflect the rhythm and cadence of the spoken forecast. It is structured in three parts: a glossary translating forecast terminology into clear definitions, a typographic interpretation of the broadcast itself inspired by concrete poetry, and a series of graphic maps representing maritime regions with their names and coordinates.
.
Together, these sections explore both the functional purpose of the forecast and its poetic, calming presence, using type and layout to reflect the shifting conditions of the sea and the measured tone in which it is delivered.
